who we are
Dr. Ian Victor, an accomplished neurosurgeon, is the respected leader of our Neurospine team. His medical journey commenced with an MB, ChB degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 2010. Complementing this, he achieved a diploma in emergency medicine and advanced life support certifications, broadening his experience over two years with Princess Cruises.
In his quest for specialization, Dr. Victor pursued a Fellowship in Neurosurgery at Tygerberg Hospital, acquiring his MMED in neurosurgery in 2019. His continuous pursuit of knowledge led to further specialization with a spinal fellowship at Spine Centre and an endoscopic spine fellowship at Spinescopy in India.
In addition to his neurosurgical expertise, Dr. Victor trained in pain medicine with Professor Andre Boezaart and is a Lumina certified pain doctor. His specialty includes minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery and skull base neurosurgery, consistently prioritizing the highest standard of patient care.

Dr. Caryn April, a dedicated medical doctor specializing in patient-centered care and chronic pain management, possesses a decade-long experience in emergency medicine and surgery. She graduated with distinction from the University of Cape Town in 2010, winning prestigious awards in surgery and Urology. Following stints in emergency units and ICUs across South Africa, she pursued surgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal until 2021. A personal loss spurred her move towards managing pain through minimally invasive procedures. Now, she independently operates a wellness practice in Foreshore, focusing on patient wellbeing, pain management, and health promotion, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of experts.

Spine Surgeon, 20+ years experience
Dr. Attila Szabo, an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon, began his career in 1988 at Semmelweis Medical School, Budapest. His early exposure to orthopaedic medicine inspired his specialization. Moving to Johannesburg in 1991, he became a specialist orthopaedic surgeon at WITS University in 2000. His interest in spinal disorders sparked in Johannesburg, working with spinal surgery pioneer Dr. Leonard Nainkin. In Cape Town, he opened a private practice and completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital. Dr. Szabo is a member of several esteemed spinal societies, demonstrating his profound commitment to his field.
